What is The Mummy MOT?

The Mummy MOT is a 90 minute long, specialist Physiotherapist appointment. It is for postnatal women, with or without symptoms of “tummy gap”, pelvic floor problems such as bladder/ bowels leaks, prolapse, digestive issues such as constipation. You will have a full assessment of your breathing, posture, tummy and pelvic floor and discussion around how physio can help with these issues.

This assessment and any treatment arising from it is appropriate whether you have given birth vaginally or by c-section. The assessment costs £100 for 90 mins and includes treatment and a rehab plan within that hour as time allows. Follow up sessions are usually required, these last 60 minutes and are £70. These will include hands on treatment time and time to progress your rehab.

From this we can discuss appropriate postnatal exercise plans and goals for you to work towards. You will normally be seen an average once every three to four weeks- you will be given the rehab you need to do yourself to help your body heal and the time your body needs to do it in. There is no “quick-fix”, but a thorough assessment and treatment WILL help.

What Does The Powerhouse Pilates Classes Involve?

Each class is run by a qualified Physiotherapist. The Powerhouse provide matwork Pilates classes for all abilities, specialist pregnancy classes, postnatal classes and 1:1 sessions.

Matwork classes run in 4 week blocks.
As we are a small studio, we cannot offer a PAYG option on our matwork. By paying for your block, you guarantee yourself a mat each week, and are more likely to benefit from consistent practice.

The benefit of this is that you get adequate supervision from your instructor and everyone gets to know each other during class, which brings a lovely element to each session!

Our Most FAQ's

If your question is not listed or you still have a query about any of our services please get in touch, we'd love to hear from you!

1Where is The Powerhouse Located?
Our studio is located at 12 John Mitchell Place, Newry BT34 2BP. We're beside Boyds Stores in Newry!
2What Should I Wear?
Comfortable workout gear is perfect. You will be asked to remove your shoes prior to your class starting. For Reformer Classes, we politely ask that you ensure there are no zips on your clothes as this can damage upholstery on the carriage.
3Do You Have 1:1 Sessions?
Yes, we are able to provide 1:1 on appointment basis. We can provide 1:1 matwork and reformer sessions. These cost £40 for an hour long session with discount available on block booking. Please ask a member of The Powerhouse team about discounts on block bookings.
4Where Can I See Your Timetable?
You can find our timetable on the home page of The Powerhouse website or if you are interested in a particular class, further details are shown over on our Classes page.
1Do You Have an Attendance Policy?
We understand that things can crop up from time to time and your appointment may need to be rescheduled. We ask that you give us at least 24 hours notice of any cancelled appointments for Women's Health Physio/Mummy MOT or Private Reformer/Matwork Classes. Failure to do so will result in a cancellation charge which is non-refundable or redeemable against any other sessions.
2Anxious About Starting a Class?
Don't worry, any assessment or treatment that takes place at The Powerhouse will only occur after a full discussion with you and only ever with your consent. Assessments are fully confidential, with a female Physiotherapist and you will be taken through all stages of The MOT at your own pace.
3My C-Section Gives me Trouble
We understand that C-sections aren’t just about “the scar”- although that’s what most women may feel unhappy with, whether it is the look, feel or both.

We provide holistic care of your whole tummy- as this surgery affects all the muscles in your tummy, and in turn, your back, hip, and pelvic floor muscles. These can be treated and rehabbed with specialist physiotherapy.

This treatment can be useful for any abdominal scars- be an appendectomy, hysterectomy, or other scars.
